Types of Plastering Trowels
1. Square plastering trowels. This is the basic trowel used in applying the base layer and some top layers, and is the most common. They are rectangular in shape and have four sharp corners. Compared to bricklaying trowels, square plaster trowels have wider blades.
2. Notched plaster trowels. This type of trowel is commonly used in tile work. They have notches on both sides of the trowel and will leave even lines when plastering. Notched trowels may also be used in the scraping phase of triple mortar.
